Door de strenge vorst in Noord-Amerika zijn een aantal sneeuwuilen meegelift op een vrachtschip richting Europa. Een paar uilen gingen van boord in Nederland en kozen uiteindelijk Vlieland uit als plek om langer te verblijven. De combinatie van duinen en Sneeuwuilen was voor mij meer dan voldoende om naar Vlieland te gaan. Uiteindelijk konden we twee uilen bekijken en goed fotograferen. Ze stoorden zich totaal niet aan de aanwezige fotografen. Een van de uilen vloog geregeld naar de strandzijde, waar zij (het zijn waarschijnlijk jonge vrouwtjes) op kleine steltlopers jaagt. Zo konden we haar ook op het strand fotograferen; een fantastisch gezicht! Aangezien het zonlicht mooi diffuus was door wat hoge bewolking leverde het fraaie platen op. Natuurlijk zou het nog mooier zijn geweest als er wat sneeuw zou zijn, maar ook hiermee ben ik dik tevreden.

Because of the severe frost in North America a number of snowy owls hitched on a freighter to Europe. A few owls disembarked in the Netherlands and finally chose Vlieland as a place to stay longer. The combination of dunes and Snowy Owls was more than enough reason to go to Vlieland. Eventually we could see two owls and photograph them in a nice setting. They totally ignored the photographers. One of the owls regularly flew to the beach side, where she (they are probably young females) hunts small waders. So we could photograph her at the beach, a fantastic sight! As the sun was beautifully diffused by some high clouds I ended up with beautiful pictures. Of course it would have been nicer if there would have been some snow, but with these photos I am also very satisfied.
